YFC/Youth Unlimited in Langley is conducting a survey of local youth needs.
LANGLEY, B.C. – With the rapid shifts in youth culture in the lower mainland, local youth workers from YFC/Youth Unlimited are conducting a community survey to determine the needs of the young people in our community.
Youth Unlimited has been active in the Greater Vancouver region for the past 60 years and seek to base their programs around the needs of each particular area in the region. “The last community survey of youth needs in Langley was done by our organization seven years ago,” Remarked Danny Ferguson, Area Director of Langley for Greater Vancouver YFC / Youth Unlimited, “The many challenges taking place in the lives of young people in our community have motivated us to revaluate the youth work we are doing in Langley. We want to be sure we are working to meet the actual needs of local young people.”
The dream of the YU team is simply that the youth of this community would have the means to live a healthy life: physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. “In order for us to help ensure health for our young people,” Ferguson stated, “we must know what areas they need the most help in.” For this reason Ferguson and his team of youth workers are urging for the community to assist them in gathering information that could help shape youth programs in the area for years to come.
The YU team is looking for community members, leaders of faith based organizations, parents and local youth to participate in the study. This comes with an incentive for young people. Each young person that fills out a survey is also entered into a contest to win an iPod Nano. They will also extend an iPod reward to the person that gets the greatest number of young people to participate in the short online questionnaire. The survey links can be found here:
“We are excited about this project,” said Ferguson, “and we look forward to continuing the enhancement of our supportive services to the youth of Langley.”
